Basically, I am supposed to share a book that is representative of my province. Quebec, BTW:) So, here it is...BUT, it is more of an author who represents my province. Her name is
Marie Louise Gay
and these are just a few of her amazing books.
She is a fantastic author and illustrator, who was born in Quebec City and now lives in Montreal. My absolute favourite of all of her books is Please Louise.
Why I Like It: When school first begins and I get a batch of new firsties, I am dealing with so many things. I know I don't have to explain this to you, you get me. And once things start rolling along and I feel that my kids are ready to go a bit deeper into the books I read to them and maybe begin some kind of connecting, I use Please Louise. I use it because it is a sure fire connect book for any kid. I haven't met a kid yet that could not connect to this book. My kids are also french speaking, so the fact that they are able to get this story in both languages from me and from the French teacher is an added bonus. It is complete understanding for them.
The Story: This is the story of an older brother and younger sister who don't always live harmoniously together. Imagine! Louise bugs her older brother, Jake so much that he just eventually wishes she would go away. It becomes a lesson in - be careful what you wish for- and ends more than happily. I LOVE it.
If it is not part of your classroom library yet, it is so worth it. You won't be disappointed. Marie Louise Gay is actually the illustrator in Please Louise. Although it is my favourite, all of her books sit on the shelf of honour in my classroom. I am truly a fan and always will be. That fact that she's from Quebec, well...that I am just extra proud of.
Have a great week!
