Earth Day Freebie

Earth Day is a big deal at my school. Each class does something to show that they care about the Earth and we celebrate with an Assembly where everyone presents their ideas about what they've done. My kids came up with their own idea of what to do this year to show they care. It all started one day at lunch time when one little cutie asked if she could pick up litter on the playground. I gave her a pint sized plastic glove and a little bag to put her trash in and away she went. Little did I know that this would start a movement. My kids just became little trash collectors after that. They were on a mission, totally inspired and my heart warmed each time they headed out at recess to continue their work. I loved that they thought of it on their own.
If you're looking for something to help you inspire your kids, I've got a couple to share with you. Just click on the pic to download.
And if you want something to get your kids creating for the day, here it is…
For more info, click on the pic. I started this with my kids last week and we had so much fun creating. A few of my kids are done and they look awesome so far.

Have a great Earth Day.

Wordless Wednesday: A Recycled Robot

I love Wednesdays! I'm linking up again with Christina at Second Grade Sugar and Spice.

This little cutie happens to be in 3rd grade now, but she used to be mine and I still can't make it through a day without a visit from her. She made this robot with some help from her Mom and every single thing on it is recycled or reused. Isn't it awesome?
Do you reuse things from home in your classroom?

Easy Easter Craft? I Got"Chick" Covered!

Are the weeks just flying by for you right now? Me too! And since most of us will be celebrating Easter this weekend, I thought I would share with you a really easy Easter craft. This idea actually came from a student. She saw it on Pinterest and it is irresistibly cute. And most importantly - EASY.
Here it is…

Isn't that cute? All you need is a large oval for the body of the chick, we just used a tracer (made from cereal box cardboard). Your kids just trace it onto yellow construction paper, then cut it out. For the wings, have your kids trace their hands and cut out. The legs are orange construction paper strips folded over fan style, the nose is a double triangle. And the bigger the eyes, the cuter the chick. I hope you'll give it a try. I'd love to hear from you if you do!!

Have a great week.

Wordless Wednesday:Finding Time to Organize

So, I'm linking up with my friend Christina at Second Grade Sugar and Spice today for her Wordless Wednesday Linky.

Without another word, here it is
Need I say more? This is one of my drawers. Finally fixed it and I feel so much better.
Is there something in your classroom that you've been wanting to organize?

I wish you a great Wednesday.

The Bear Wants More…Can You Blame Him?

My kids go nuts for these Bear books!! It starts in the Fall with Bear Snores On, then Christmas with Bear Stays Up and now Spring and Bear Wants More.

I have to admit I love the stories too. They are so sweet and charming and my kids love to talk about the characters and how cute they are. I created a pack that can be used in conjunction with the story. This time I included a favorite character graph, which my kids had so much fun doing. It's great to watch them go around the room and ask each other questions, then record the responses. They have become so independent!
Here's a quick peek at it! There's some Bear themed Math practice with ten frames and simple addition and for Literacy, we explore the story by making connections, re-telling, building sentences and just plain character fun!
We're just finishing up the Bear story this week and moving onto this little nugget of a topic next. Pollution! Gearing up for an Earth Day full of awareness.
And we just finished reading this great story about Oil Spills. My kids felt so bad for the birds and the animals. But, it really got them thinking about what they could do to help the planet.
I'll be back soon with more Earth Saving ideas! You can check out Bear Wants More here.
Hope it's showing signs of Spring wherever you are.
