Ski Masks and a Little Santa

2 days to go before the Christmas break! Not sure if you're going to make it? Yeah me too.  One of my kids came to the carpet (which is where we begin our day) wearing a ski mask the other day. I'm not kidding. I wish I were. I looked over and basically the only thing I could see, to read his expression, were his eyes cause the ski mask covered everything else. And his expression was dead serious, so I gathered all the calm that I had left and asked about the ski mask. He told me that he liked it and wanted to wear it. Alrighty.  I quickly explained how the rest of his day would go if he chose to keep it on. He removed it. I'd like to say that I was shocked, but I wasn't. I think, at this point, it would take a lot to shock me.

So…I'm thinking that if you are, in any way, having a week like mine - you could use some help. Enter Santa. Love this
If you need a little ELA and Math practice, I've got another Santa for ya.
Just click right on it to download - hope it can help you out this week. Have a great few days with your kids!

Bear Stays Up…Yeah He Does

I am loving the Bear Series of books. My class is onto this one now.
I'm in love with the characters and the absolute sweetness of the story. It's the perfect time of year for it too. My kids worked hard on all things Bear related this week.

And the ever popular Write the Room, always a big hit with my kids

In action

All these activities are from my Bear Stays Up unit. If you'd like to win a copy, just leave me a comment and I'll choose a winner tomorrow.
I wish you a great December weekend.

December Currently and Some Friendly Shout Outs

Just thought I would let you know what I've been up to. It was my birthday on Friday and although I'm older, I don't feel it. There are times I actually feel like I could hang out with teenage girls and get along great. Great, at least, until I realize that I'm old enough to be their mother. That hit me a few years back when there was a new teacher starting at our school. I loved her right away - we clicked and became the best of friends. A few weeks later, I actually thought to ask her how old she was. When we traded age info, she said to me - Oh, you're the same age as my Mom. Waaaaah! Gulp! was my reply.
So, here's the latest link up with Farley.
I'm sure you know about the big TPT sale. Just thought I would let you know about some great products out there. First up, is this great Vocabulary Board from my friend Jennifer at Rowdy in First Grade. There are so many things you can use this for at this time of year - writing stations, work with words, lists, you name it.
Next up, is sweet Marie from The Hands On Teacher in First. This is a great project for your kids for the holidays and will give them a chance to become little engineers.
And finally, there's Georgia girl Valerie from Georgia Grown Kiddos. She has a great Calendar Set for your morning meeting.
Hope you find something you're looking for and enjoy shopping during the sale.

Read to Self and a Thanksgiving Freebie

I've been trying to get the Daily 5 up and running in my room. When it is finally working well, it is so great to be able to have that small group time. But, the hardest thing I find is to get my kids to stay in that bubble space. Some of them are really good at it and others just need to show you every little thing that they discover in their book. In an effort to have this running more smoothly, I spent a lot of time on 3 Ways to Read a Book. I was lucky enough to have 22 copies of this book.
So, we do a read aloud together and then we practise re-telling the story. They each get a copy of the book for their Read to Self folder, works really well for when they are trying it on their own. Here is my anchor chart for 3 Ways.

Since Thanksgiving is just around the corner, I have a little freebie for ya! It has Math and Literacy practice.  Just click on it to download.
Have a great weekend!

Bear Snores On in November

It's November! Can you believe it? It was the first day of school a second ago and now here we are. I need to evaluate my kids for report cards this week and I'm not sure where all that precious time went. I have to say that, although I dislike snow A LOT, I LOVE November before it snows. It's so crisp and pretty and so many things are changing. This is a great book for this time of year.
As for Halloween, I did not give into the candy haze!! I worked my kids like little bees last Friday. I had to, otherwise it would have been anarchy.  Check out my little Jack Sparrow, he's so cute. I've been calling him Captain ever since.
Since November is upon us, it got me to thinking about this awesome story.
It's such a cute story and I wanted to do more with it, so I created some activities around it.
My kids have been having so much fun with this! You can check out some of their work below.

Have a great week!

A Halloween Freebie

2 more days until Halloween. Just wondering if you have given any thought as to what Friday will be like? I have thought about this. A lot. And I realized that I have essentially 2 choices.
1. Ignore the fact that the kids will be completely wired and keep them so busy all day that they won't have a minute to think straight. OR 2. Give in to the candy haze and consider the day an absolute write off. I have not decided which one I will choose, but so far this week I am leaning towards #2 cause kids the day after Halloween - that's just too powerful a force to fight against PLUS it's a Friday. My kids have a hard time getting stuff done on a regular Friday, imagine the Friday after Halloween.

I will keep you posted. In the meantime, I got a word search for ya! Just click on it to download.
Got this great pumpkin on the weekend, I call him Bob, that's a shocker! My kids LOVE him.

Don't forget, you've got 1 more day to enter my Fall Clip Art Giveaway!
Hope you're having a great week!

A Fall Clip Art Giveaway 2 Lucky Winners!

Hi there - I have a Clip Art addiction! I consider it to be fairly harmless, so I just let my love for cute Clip Art take over my life most of the time. My good friend Marilou draws custom stuff for me whenever I need it. She's a gem! I am so lucky cause I never give her any warning, I usually just run into her classroom, chart paper and scented markers flying behind me, tell her what I need, run back to my class and wait. She always delivers and I end up with beautiful anchor charts, thanks to her. Here is one of my favourites she drew for me.
And now, Marilou is sharing her talent with everyone, so she's not just mine anymore. She has opened a TPT and an Etsy store and I would LOVE for you to win some of her clip art. She is giving away her Halloween and Thanksgiving bundles to 2 lucky winners as well as a custom teacher illustration, you can check out the one she did of me below.

Just use the Rafflecopter below to enter the Clip Art Giveaway.

Good luck! If you have time to stop by Marilou's Etsy shop, she is offering 10% off now til Monday, just use the code 10GROOVY.
