A Cracked Heart and an Old Freebie

Please forgive my lack of posting. I have two reasons. The first - I went back to school, which of course means I have re-instated my alarm clock as bedside buddy. Back where he belongs, so that each morning I can throw it across the room push the snooze button and be so happy to wake up when it's dark outside.
Second reason - My daughter left for college yesterday. Today, my heart has a crack in it.  I don't know any other way to describe it to you. I have spent the day wallowing and taking care of the lump in my throat. A good friend of mine told me once that, if you have a lump in your throat, you need to figure out why it's there and then take care of it. Well, I know why it's there - my daughter has left. So, now I am trying to take care of it.  But, the crack in my heart.  I'm pretty sure it's gonna be there for a while. I will put all my energy into caring for the lump and the crack so that I am ready for my kids on Wednesday, which is when school officially starts.  So far, I have made minimal progress. This is starting to sound like a report card comment.

No more days of fixing up my classroom in peace. Wandering in and out of other teachers' classrooms to chat and exchange ideas. So, right now I am working on another set of classroom rules to share with you, but in the meantime, I am recycling an old freebie, just in case you didn't catch it the first time. It's the Daily Five - Use RIGHT to remember. I just put it up in my room. I hope that it is something that can also help you.

Thanks for reading this far. I am off to deal with the lump and the crack. I'll be OK in a few days.  Nothing quite like a daughter leaving to throw you completely off balance. Right now, I just need someone to pat my head and tell me it'll be OK.
Just 1 little click on the pic and you're on your way!

Cool Cat Rules for the School Year

I've been thinking a lot about school starting, I love my kiddies, but it's nice to stay home and go with whatever the flow is that day.  I don't think it matters how much I prepare, I am never quite ready for that first day or week for that matter. I've also been re-thinking the rules in my classroom. And decided to go in a slighty different direction this year. And I'm going to use Pete this cat to help me cause he's just so cool. My friend Marilou made him for me, well we just used Nikki's model and traced it on an overhead, but she did all the rest for me. I love him.

So, I am trying to present my rules, as cool this year. And in an ideal world, my kids will just want to follow them cause they are so cool. And I will have no problems at all (fantasy). But, seriously,  I am hoping it will be catching to be cool. I took a few of my favourites and made them look even cooler. You can click on the pic below to download all my cool cat rules. I will let you know if it works - fingers crossed!

Two Great Giveaways and What's in your Cart Linky

Hi all
I want to just let you know about some fab giveaways that 2 great blogger friends of mine are having! The first is Corrina from Teaching Fabulous Firsties. You have the chance to win great products from all her featured stores. My Super Math Pack is one of them. It has been photocopied 15 times for my students and separated and is now lying all over the basement floor waiting for me to organize and put it into binders for my kids. Trying to get a headstart, but I digress, you can check Corrina's Giveaway out here
The 2nd Giveaway is Kelly at First Grade Fairytales! She is giving away a $25 gift certificate from TPT. We could all use that. Check her out here

And since TPT is having their big sale this weekend, I want to share with you all the great stuff that is in my cart! This is a linky from Cassandra at Adventures in Room 5
So, here is my cart

This is such a great pack, there is so much clip art for so many different subjects - I love it!
Speaking of love, I love Laura's Read and Write the room! This one is for all the short vowels, it has amazing graphics and I am looking forward to using it.
I love this! You know when you have all those unifix cubes in your class and you look at them and think Gosh, I just wish I had simple practical fun activities to use with these. This unit has all that and more. It has everything!!!
And then, last but not least is this Smartboard calendar. I am so happy to have this. I already had one but it wasn't extensive enough. This one goes into much greater detail and I adore it. You can click on  the pictures to visit each of these amazing products.

So that's my cart folks. Don't forget the Giveaways from those sweet ladies Corinna and Kelly.
